Most Arsenal fans will be glad to hear that Wenger has finally decided to add some steel to our mediocre defence. Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has been identified as the solution to our woeful defence and potential partner to Koscielny.
Kalidou Koulibaly is an upgrade of current skipper Per Mertesacker who isn’t getting any younger and losing whatever is left of his slow pace. The German international was very crucial to Arsenal’s defence as he made crucial interceptions. But Mertesacker has been unable to maintain the form that saw him move to North London failing to deal with the physical demand of the English premier league which is built around pace and physicality.
On the other hand Gabriel Paulista is yet to adopt to the Premier league. The Brazilian defender has shown glimpse of his potential and whats to come, but Arsenal needs a consistent defender that will turn up every time he is on the pitch. And this is where Koulibaly comes into play for the Gunners.
Arsenal will have to act fast as Chelsea and Everton are keen on signing the 25-year-old defender who is valued at £34m by Napoli. Arsenal has the advantage of playing in the Champions league football ahead of Chelsea and Everton, which might be the deciding factor to sway Koulibaly’s decision.
