Arsenal are on the verge of signing their third major summer signing. Only on Sunday Arsenal announced they have agreed a deal in principle to sign highly rated Japanese striker Takuma Asano and now according to various reports, Arsenal are now very close to yet another signing, this time a goalkeeper.
According to reports from the Netherland, NEC Nijmegen budding goalkeeper Guy Smith is set to fly to London this week and will undergo a medical and a two weeks trial with Arsenal and should he prove himself while on trial, he will be given a 4 years contract with Arsenal.
NEC Nijmegen have so far failed in their bid to convince the highly rated goalkeeper to sign an extension to his deal which expired on July 1 and he will now be joining Arsenal on a free transfer. With doubts hanging on the heads of David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny, Guy Smith could be Arsenal’s second choice goalkeeper next season and Damian Martinez the third choice.
Wojciech Szczesny is set to remain at Roma for another year while Ospina has been linked with a move to Besiktas. It appears Wenger is ready to let the Poland international the Colombian leave Arsenal and will bring in 20-year-old Guy Smith and retain Martinez at the club as second and third choice.
