Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to table an improved £41.8m offer for Lyon and France international striker Alexandre Lacazette after their initial £33.4m offer was rejected by French club Lyon, according to reports in France. Online English Premier League odds on player transfers indicates there is a real chance that Lacazette could be playing for Arsenal next season. Maybe the bookmakers have some insider information?
The Arsenal boss has been extremely busy looking out for a new top forward this summer transfer window, and has been forced to search elsewhere, after the club was turned down by England international Jamie Vardy, despite activating his release clause. The England striker opted to remain with Premier League champions Leicester City.
The London club has been linked with several strikers this summer, but Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain and Lacazette are undoubtedly the most likely targets.
However, Napoli’s outrageous asking price for Higuain has made the Arsenal boss to move for Lacazette as reports in the France media this evening has it that the Gunners are lining-up an improved bid for the striker.
According to French outlet Le Progres, Arsene Wenger is now set to table an improved bid of £41.8m, after an opening offer of £33.4m bid was rejected by the Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Despite a hard start to the season, Lacazette still went on to score 23 goals in 44 matches for French club Lyon last season.
Only Zlatan Ibrahimovic who played for a much better PSG team outscored Lacazette last season which goes to show how much the French striker has. Although many could argue that he is not better than Giroud as Giroud benches him at national team level.
But let’s not forget the same Giroud benches Benzema at national team level. Can we say Giroud is better than Benzema? Having seen Lacazette play so many times, I am 100% sure he is better than Giroud. Off course Giroud is better in another way but with Mesut Ozil in our team, Lacazette could go on to do better than Giroud.
Lacazette playing style will ensure Ozil creates assists upon assists. And should Wenger decide to play a two striker system, both Lacazette and Giroud can play together in the same team.
However, aside a striker, Wenger must ensure a wing forward is signed for us this summer. Especially as Walcott has proved himself to be unreliable Imagine if Arsenal had a wing forward that was scoring goals last season? Although Giroud’s 16 league goals last season isn’t good enough but if someone had been scoring as the Frenchman was scoring, Arsenal probably would have won the league last season.
The good thing is Riyad Mahrez looks available so aslo is Draxler. Both of them are gettable and within our budget. Draxler can be signed for £50 million while Mahrez should be available for anything in the £30 million range. Whether Wenger will make up his mind and spend the cash that Arsenal have in reserve is another ball game.
However, failure to do the right thing in the summer transfer window could have a very bad consequence on Arsenal league position in the league next season. With Tottenham, United, Leicester, West Ham and others doing superb businesses in the transfer window, Arsenal can’t afford to be left behind.
