Arsenal are set to complete yet another signing. Well not a striker this time. Having completed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach and Takuma Asano from an Asian club, many thought Arsenal’s next signing will be a striker alias, the club is on the verge of signing a goalkeeper.
With David Ospina looking like he will be going to Turkey and Szczesny set to stay in Italy for at least another year, Arsenal certainly could do with the signing of another keeper to act as back up to Petr Cech or at least third choice with Darmian Martinez second choice.
According to reports, NEC Nijmegen goalkeeper Guy Smith has been spotted at London Colney to undergo a medical with Arsenal ahead of a two weeks trial at the club. The player who has played for Brighton and Albion under manager Chris Hughton has refused to sign a new contract with NEC and will be signing for Arsenal on a free transfer if he is successful in his medicals and two weeks trial.
The goalkeeper himself has confirmed the news saying “This opportunity I have to seize,”
He played 11 games for NEC last season but for their reserve team and kept three clean sheets.
