Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has lauded the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger’s refusal to spend mammoth fees in bringing in players to the club.
The Arsenal gaffer has started receiving some flaks over his refusal to loosen the purse strings this summer. With the likes of the two Manchester clubs, United and City, as well as Liverpool and Chelsea splashing the cash, Wenger’s only major signing thus far has been Granit Xhaka.
The Gunners faithful have been infuriated by this and they showed their disappointment after their side’s opening Premier League defeat to Liverpool last weekend by booing Wenger.
Although the lashing is becoming increasingly widespread, Vieira has said that he venerates his former manager’s refusal to spend.
“Money always helps you but it doesnt guarantee you success”, the Manchester City U-21 boss told talkSPORT.
“In one way I admire him [Wenger] because he didn’t splash the money and buy players he believed couldn’t help the team and make it better. That is something you have to admire.”
It will be exciting to see whether Wenger will give in to the pressure and spend big on transfers before the summer window is closed. Arsenal need to sign a couple of players but, the defence department is Wenger’s reported priority.
