Lot of Arsenal transfer rumours has suggested that top European clubs would like to sign some of Arsenal top players like Alexis Sanchez, Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil, but reports rarely link the players that Arsenal actually want to leave, like Theo Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Per Mertesacker.
Report suggests that one of these top European clubs are after French striker Olivier Giroud, as if any of them would want him.
Those clubs are very reluctant to even match the exorbitant wages that Wenger has given the players every time they enter into contract talks. The huge wage demands chase away suitors.
If only Wenger had refused to listen to Theo Walcott’s wage demands a couple of years ago, and put him up for sale, maybe the club would have a truly world-class winger with a smaller wage.
At the moment, Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain are demanding to have wages equaled with Walcott. And it’s likely Wenger will be entering into contract talks with those two players very shortly, and the club will cave in and give them what they want, despite their reputations having declined in form and quality rather than been enhanced in the last few years.
For these reasons, hopes of building a truly world class squad to match top Europe clubs has been hindered.
