With Mkhitaryan going to Manchester United and Mahrez looking like he will remain at Leicester, Wenger is said to have turned his attention long term target Arda Turan as Catalona club Barcelona are willing to let go of the Turkish International for as little as £29m. Latest reports indicate that Barca are willing to let Turan go only after 1 season with the Spanish side.
Barca is willing to sell the Turkish captain, even at two thirds of the 40 million euros they paid to Atletico a year ago to secure the signing of Turan. The 29-year-old midfilder is reluctant to leave Camp Nou, as he would like to stay, prove his worth and fight for a spot in the first team. With the arrival of Denis Suarez there will be more competition for in the midfield for playing time and some of the club’s directors believe it would be good business to sell him now as they see him as surplus requirement.
Turan moved to Barca under the most controversial circumstances signing for Barcelona during a FIFA’s ban on registering players, Turan didn’t make his debut until January of last season, but when he did, he failed to live up to expectations.
Arda Turan who mocked Arsenal before his move to Barcelona, saying that they were his Plan B before he signed for Barcelona, will be eating his words in no time. The Turkish midfielder said that during his last season with Atletico, he was thinking he had to play “very well” for Atletico Madrid to secure a move to Barca which he coveted, as if he only played “well” he would have to sign for the Gunners.
Apparently he hasn’t played very well to be on the Barcelona bench as they are more than willing to offload him to Arsenal on the cheap.
