Arsenal have received a new offer from a Premier League rival to sell key midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain according to reports on Wednesday.
Arsene Wenger has sold very few of his first team players this summer with Yaya Sanogo and Wojciech Szczesny completing departures so far.
The Arsenal manager admitted after Sunday’s game that he was willing to offload some players to trim down his 33-man squad before the transfer window closes.
And Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is now back amongst the headlines regarding a possible exit following a tempting offer to sell him.
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have made a new bid of €38.7 million (£35 million) for the 23-year-old England international.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, only has one year remaining on his contract with hardly any signs of a new deal being imminent.
The report is indicating that Antonio Conte’s side are now offering Arsenal a higher amount than Liverpool for the services of the former Southampton man.
When asked about his thoughts on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s situation at his press conference on Wednesday, Wenger only had praises for the midfielder.
“I think he’s had in his career some bad moments,” the Arsenal boss said
“He’s had some small injuries but last year he was much more stable.
“Personally I believe he is a hugely talented player who is on the way up. He will continue to move up because the potential is there.
“Today he is conscious of his qualities. Personally I believe he will be a very great player.”
