Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has announced that centre-back Stefan de Vrij will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, according to Goonersden.
The 26-year-old’s current deal with the Italian outfit ends this summer, and talks over an extension have established fruitless.
De Vrij has been strongly linked with a transfer to Arsenal in last transfer windows as Arsene Wenger wants to reinforce his defensive options. However, the Gunners are expected to face opposition for his services from the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan and Liverpool.
“It’s a decision made after many months. There’s a limit to everything. We will say goodbye at the end of the season,” Tare told to The Mirror.
De Vrij has performed in 29 matches across all tournaments for Lazio so far this campaign, netting four Serie A goals to help the club into fourth in the standings.
