Arsene Wenger Press Conference

In his latest press conference, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, discussed the futures of Ozil and Sanchez and more. We have seen the Gunners win some much needed points before the international break which sees them just one point ahead of Watford for their upcoming match.

Prior to the press conference, Wenger received some positive news in that Laurent Koscielny is set to be fit to play despite struggling with his ongoing Achilles problem. This comes as a welcome break after Mustafi suffered a hamstring injury during the international break. A further boost for the Gunners is that Kolasinac, Ozil, and Welbeck are all returning to full training this week.

Wenger was asked some grueling questions during his press conference including whether Arsenal will let Ozil and Sanchez go in January. Wenger said, “It is possible.” He also stated that no deadline had been set on the duo making a decision.

He was also asked about the Christmas Eve clash and he replied saying, “I know that we have to adapt to the schedule dictated by TV. If that happens, I think no game should be played after 2pm. I would prefer to be at home on Christmas night and celebrating. I feel it could still happen if we play early. People want to watch football during the Christmas period.”

Wenger was asked if he had any defensive concerns ahead of Saturday’s game. He said,” I have concerns. I will decide tomorrow what I will do after Koscielny has a test. He has no pain on his Achilles, but I will make a decision.

When asked about Overmars coming back to Arsenal, Wenger said, “We have always been in touch, but he is Director of Football at Ajax. It is not happening at the moment.”

Wenger was also asked about the Ozil situation, the motivation for Sanchez without the World Cup and his mental state, and of course the latest injuries. He confirmed that Mustafi is out for four to six weeks after the German defender picked up a thigh injury during the international break.

Wenger Set to Make Big Changes in January

The future of both Alexis and Ozil is under discussion with both in their final year of their contracts. It is thought that both could depart the club when the winter window opens. According to Wenger it is possible that both Sanchez and Ozil could leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.

We have been made aware that Alexis has made it clear to the Arsenal board that he has no intention of signing a new deal. Ozil, meanwhile has been attracting interest from Manchester United and Barcelona, but his agent has stated that a contract extension with Arsenal is heading in a very positive direction.
