One player who has been the target of top European sides since the inception of this summer’s transfer is Paris Saint Germain’s midfield ace Blaise Matuidi.
From the look of things, it appears PSG are willing to listen to offers for the France international and the reason is clearly wheeled out. The Paris-based outfit parted ways with Laurent Blanc in the summer and brought in Unai Emery, who steered Sevilla to Europa League glory last season.
Emery almost immediately signed Grzegorz Krychowiak, one of his midfield untouchables when he was boss of the Spanish side, throwing Matuidi’s PSG future in doubt.
Arsenal registered an interest in the player in August and the Gunners’ Premier League rivals like Chelsea and Manchester United have also shown interest and although Emery rates Matuidi, the PSG manager seems to be stating the player will not be staying put.
“I want the best players with me, Blaise Matuidi is one of them”, Emery said.
“I do not take the decision alone, there are three parts: the club, the player and me. I want him to stay here.
“He’s an important player for me because he represents the identity of the team. You have to see what the player wants. The club will see if there is ever an offer from another club.”
Emery believes Matuidi is a top player, but the French Ligue 1 champions will cash in on the midfield powerhouse if the right offer comes in.
Matuidi’s addition to the Arsenal midfield will add guile, strength as well as pace to that department. Also, given Arsenal players’ susceptibility to injuries, the Frenchman’s signing will be a statement of intent from the Gunners. We wait to see if Wenger will be successful in sealing this deal!
