Arsenal have been named as one of the Premier League clubs Naby Keita snubbed during the summer before joining Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig.
Keita, 21, has told The Sun that he rejected Arsenal, Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester City in the summer transfer window before joining his new club. Keita joined RB Leipzig from Austrian top side Red Bull Salzburg for a reported £12m.
The central midfielder has now revealed he spoke to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger before moving to the Red Bull Arena. “All those clubs got in touch with me about a move”, the Guinean told The Sun regarding interest from Manchester City, Southampton and Liverpool.
“I didn’t speak with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp but I had a phone conversation with Arsene Wenger, who spoke French to me.
“Yet I chose Leipzig as they have great potential and I didn’t yet want to join a big Champions League club.
“Leipzig’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick has treated me like a son. He came to France in 2014 to sign me for Salzburg and I trust him entirely”, Keita concluded.
The combative midfielder is still 21 and if he develops fast enough, he could become one of the most sought-after midfielder in Europe. Wenger could regret not signing this player again!
