The move to bring in a top notch centre half to the Emirates is still ongoing as talks between Arsenal and clubs of targets have not been fruitful.
However, there are claims that a deal for one of their defensive targets could be done before the weekend.
The Metro have chipped in with a report that Arsenal are confident of landing Shkodran Mustafi, although they may have to wait until the weekend before sealing the transfer. They cite Goal who claim the transfer is not as close as recent reports may suggest and is still some days away from completion.
Mustafi, 24, was on the brink of completing a transfer to Arsenal over the weekend but reports claim disagreements between the Gunners and Valencia made the deal to be put on a hold.Negotiations between Arsenal and the Spanish outfit have not progressed since Friday, however, the North London side believe they can still land Mustafi for a reported £29m before the weekend. The Gunners are short in their defensive departments, with regular centre-back pairings Per Mertesacker [injured] and Laurent Koscielny [unfit] out of action. Debutant Rob Holding and Calum Chambers, whowere the makeshift centre-backs against Liverpool were ran ragged by attackers.Arsenal will now have to wait till the weekend to see if they will sign Mustafi, with the Germanmidfielder also dismissing claims a deal was close.
He is a Valencia player;, Kujtim Mustafi was quoted as saying to Goal.&
This is the most important thing for now. I cannot confirm anything [regarding how close how close a deal is]. This is a matter concerning only Valencia and my son.
