Shocking reports in the German media this afternoon claim Arsenal and Wolfsburg have reach an agreement for the signature of Julian Draxler and the German who has always been on Arsenal’s radar will be joining Arsenal in a couple of days. The former Schalk 04 star is said to have met with Wenger in France where the Frenchman was able to convince him to agree personal terms with Arsenal.
Now Bild reports a 50m bid from Arsenal has been accepted by Wolfsburg who had initially claimed they do not want to sign the player. Arsenal had made a bid said to be in the region of 30 million for Draxler when he was at Schalke 04 but the bid was rejected by his then club only for them to sell the player to Wolfsburg one year later for the same amount.
With Arsenal meeting frustration everywhere they go in search of a striker so far, signing Draxler will be a sort of double edged sord for the Gunners. Draxler can play the false nine role as well as the 10 roles and on both wings. Should Arsenal sign him, I doubt Wenger will be signing a big name striker. Maybe a cheapish striker to go along with the German.
And should the cheap striker fail to deliver, Draxler can be called upon in the absence of Giroud or when the Frenchman is out of form as he would be.
