It is not often you hear that Arsenal have hijacked a club for the signing of a player but if reports in Germany today are to be believed, then Arsenal have for the first time in a long while hijacked FC Colgne’s move for Subotic. Reports earlier this week had indicated that the Serbian is on his way to Koln after Dortmund agreed to let him go.
He was reported to have passed a medical with Koln but at the last minute Arsenal contacted Dortmund and offered 14 million for his services, the player will now fly to England next week to undergo medical with Arsenal and will be given a four years contract. Arsenal were initially linked with the player but it appeared that Wenger preferred to sign Napoli’s Kalibou Koulibaly but unfortunately Chelsea have won the race for the signature of the African.
Subotic is quite an experienced player having played for Dortmund for so many years. He lost his place in the first team last season due to injury and was unable to regain his spot. If he joins Arsenal, he will be the partner partner for Koscielny. His style and that of the Frenchman will so complement each other.
The fact that he is available for cheap makes it even more interesting.
