Arsenal are set to finalise a deal for long-term target Julian Draxler, having made a £43m [€50m] offer which Wolfsburg are ready to accept, as per Tuttomercatoweb.
Top on the agenda of Arsenal this summer is the signing of a new top notch centre-half, but Arsene Wenger is also considering attacking options, too. The reality is Arsenal need to sign a striker to rival Olivier Giroud for a starting spot in the team, but with Wenger reportedly planning to use Alexis Sanchez more often as a striker this term, it could mean the arrival of a wide attacker – and Draxler fits that bill.
Draxler’s transfer to Arsenal has been a recurring theme for the past two transfer summers and this time around, the link is even stronger as the player told Wolfsburg earlier in August he wants to leave to join a team competing in the Champions League regularly. But the Bundesliga side issued a statement, saying the former Schalke 04 attacker will not be sold this summer.
However, the above named Italian media outlet are now reporting that Arsenal have registered a formal interest in Draxler and the Bundesliga outfit are ready to accept the Gunners’ bid of £43m to allow the player leave.
Draxler’s brilliance would add something different to the Gunners’ attack and if Wenger really stands by his comment of using Sanchez more often as a striker this summer, the addition of Draxler would make sense.
