Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a new deal for Germany international star Mesut Ozil, according to The Sun.
The Premier League side, who defeated defending league champions Chelsea in the FA Community Shield last weekend, have been determined to keep hold of their prized central midfielder, amid speculation he could leave The Gunners this summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old, who has 84 international caps for his country, scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last season, who missed out on qualification for the UEFA Champions League this term after finishing fifth in the top-flight standings.
Ozil; who arrived at the Emirates Stadium back in September 2013 following his then club-record £42.5m switch from La Liga giants Real Madrid, has lifted three FA Cups and a Community Shield under manager Arsene Wenger, netting 32 goals in 161 games overall.
However, with less than one year remaining on his current deal in North London, the club were sweating over his future heading into the transfer market.
But the report now suggests Arsenal believe they are confident of keeping the German gem, with the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner willing to accept the club’s £225,000-a-week offer.
