As the transfer market approaches an end, Liverpool seem to be in for some last minute shopping. According to a report from Metro, the Reds’ officials are in Lisbon to hold talks regarding Willian Carvalho’s move to the Merseyside club.
Carvalho has been on the radar of Premier League clubs for quite some time now but has stayed put at the Portuguese capital. Arsenal are understood to be big admirers of the 24 year old but it seems like Liverpool will be the favorites to land the Portuguese midfielder’s signature.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be on the lookout for a defensive midfielder and has narrowed his search down to Carvalho. Klopp has had to play Wijnaldum as a defensive midfielder because of the lack of quality in that position in the Reds’ squad.
Wijnaldum is more of offensive midfielder who is known for the runs he makes behind the number 9 but he has had to play more of stabilizing role in the Reds’ campaign till now. In Carvalho, Klopp will find a midfielder who can anticipate play, intercept and dispossess opponents, and always be in the right place at the right time.
William Carvalho or just William as he is known in Portugal has been at Sporting Clube de Portugal since the age of 13. The 24 year old has made 140 appearances for the club scoring 9 times. His daunting figure in the heart of Sporting midfield also earned him a place in the Portuguese national team which won the Euros.
Sporting value Carvalho at £38.8 million and he still has 3 years left on his existing contract. It’ll be a very difficult signing to pull off for Liverpool but it sure will be one heck of a signing for the Merseyside club.
