Arsenal are the frontrunners [per Marca] to sign want-away Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez, as Arsene Wenger has given the nod for the London club to go ahead with the transfer.
James will reportedly cost Arsenal around £51m and it is said the Gunners are willing to cough up that fee for the Colombian ace. The belief is that Arsenal’s inability to sign a defender and striker this summer has made Wenger go all out for an attacking midfielder instead.
It has been reported that Wenger wants to constantly field Alexis Sanchez as a striker this term and James will feature as a winger – should the transfer be done.
Marca say the likes of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan have shown an interest in James, but Real believe Liverpool and Milan cannot afford the £51 valuation of the former Monaco forward.
Chelsea are also interested in James, but the Blues’ deal is hampered by Los Blancos’ interest in Eden Hazard.
Although, it is difficult to believe Arsenal will pay as high as the reported fee for a player, but James’ move away from Real continues to intensify and Arsenal are involved.
