With Gabriel Paulista looking like a mistake buy for Arsenal, and Per Mertesacker clocking 32 by September, Arsenal surely could do with the signing of another centre back. And according to reports, it seems Neven Subotic is on his way to the Emirates to undergo a medical and sign for Arsenal.
The Serbian is reportedly in England to hold talks with Middlesbrough and it was thought he will be signing for Teesside club but Arsenal have now hijacked the move and he will now be a Gunner should both he and Arsenal be able to reach an agreement on personal terms.
The experience of Subotic will certainly be useful for Arsenal. He will form a formidable partnership with Laurent Koscienly. The fact that he is available for cheap makes it even more interesting. Skysports reckons Dortmund are ready to sell the player for as little as €12 million.
By signing Subotic, Arsenal will be able to call up Subotic, Koscienly, Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista next season. It means there will be enough cover when there is injuries. It will also allow Calum Chambers to be able to go on loan to a club where he will be afford regular playing time to garner enough experience.
