Reports have flown in that Arsenal have been offered another defender by Valencia instead of their defensive target Shkodran Mustafi.
However, the defender is Aymen Abdennour who was an Arsenal target during last summer transfer window but the Gunners are unlikely to accept the chance to sign the bulky defender.
The North London outfit fielded a makeshift centre-back pairing of debutant Rob Holding and the inexperienced Calum Chambers, and were thrashed by Liverpool who claimed all three points this past weekend.
Although Laurent Koscielny who was unfit for the Liverpool game – after his participation in the European Championships in June – is expected to be back for the game against Leicester next Saturday, the need for defensive reinforcements is still necessary.Arsenal will be looking to mount a serious title challenge this term and the likes of Holding and Chambers can not be fully relied upon. A deal was thought to be in the offing to bring Mustafi to the Emirates last week, but a disagreement between his club and Arsenal made the transfer stall.
Now Valencia have reportedly offered the Gunners Abdennour, who Arsenal targeted last term, but the Tunisian defender opted to join Valencia instead after the departure of Nicolas Otamendi to Manchester City
