Arsenal’s centre-back search continues and this time, it has taken the North London club to the shores of Madrid, Spain.
Famed Spanish media outlet, Marca, have published in their Thursday edition that Arsenal have made enquiries about the availability of Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez. The Gunners have also told the La Liga giants they are serious about signing the centre-back.
Gimenez has been incessantly linked with a move away from The Vicente Calderon throughout the summer, as he was reportedly upset at being left out of Atletico Madrid’s Champions League squad by Diego Simeone. There are claims the Uruguayan defender is still struggling to come to terms with being dropped for that final match, even after his summer holidays. With such huge belief in his own abilities, there is no doubt as to why he is one of the best young defenders in the world at the moment. Because he plays for Atletico, he will certainly not come cheap.
Atletico seems to always reveal offers from clubs for their players to the media, Marca claim and with Gimenez buyout clause standing at a stunning €65m, Diego Simeone’s side will want all of that as they believe the Uruguayan has shown his worth.
It will be a huge surprise if this report [of Arsenal offering €65m for a 21-year old] is actually true.
