North London side Arsenal have been linked with a lot of attack minded players this summer such as Draxler, Morata, Sissoko and Lacazette. Latest report indicates Wenger is set to rekindle his interest in Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.
Higuain who was previously heavily linked with Arsenal when he was set to leave Real Madrid, ended up joining Napoli on a long term contract of 5 years. Higuain has recently turned down a contract extension offer from Napoli and has set his sights on the Premier league as his next destination.
In 2013 just before Higuain left Madrid, he had agreed personal terms with Arsenal, but the North London side failed to table a bid for the Argentine striker. Higuain who is still contracted to Napoli has a €94m release clause and Wenger might be reluctant to pay that much for Higuain.
Higuain was in superb form last season winning the Capocannoniere – Serie A’s golden boot – after scoring a league record 36 goals as Napoli finished runners-up to champions Juventus.
The Argentine is said to have also attracted interest from Chelsea who are keen to offload Diego Costa to make room for Higuain to lead the Blues attack next season. But Wenger is willing to table €50m and model Olivier Giroud to land the coveted striker.
