Kylian Mbappe has told Monaco that he wants to join Real Madrid either this summer or next year, according to reports in Spain.
The 18-year-old met with Monaco’s hierarchy earlier this week to discuss his future having attracted interest from several of Europe’s elite clubs, including Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
Madrid-based newspaper ABC claims that Mbappe told Monaco’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev that he wants to join Real Madrid and is willing to make the move as early as this summer.
But it’s claimed that the France international has agreed to stay with Monaco for another season as he would not be guaranteed a regular role in Zinedine Zidane’s side straight away.
Kylian Mbappe decides between Real Madrid and Arsenal in transfer meeting with Monaco
Mbappe is set to stay at Monaco on loan for another season.
Madrid are willing to allow Mbappe to remain with Monaco and are ready to pay a world record €100 million (£87.5m) transfer fee to the French champions.
But ABC also report that Monaco’s billionaire owner, Dmitry Rybolovlev, has a counter offer of €135m (£118m) from PSG and must now decide whether to accept a high bid from their French rivals, or grant Mbappe a move to his preferred destination.
