Riyad Mahrez has been on the radar of Arsenal throughout the summer and now, the Leicester City attacker has revealed the only reason that will make him consider leaving the King Power stadium.
Mahrez – who bagged 17 goals and amassed 11 assists as Leicester won the title last term – has admitted he could find it difficult to remain with Claudio Ranieri’s men, should any of the European heavyweight sides come calling. Although Mahrez has stated his desire to remain in the Premier League, the winger said an offer from Barcelona or Bayern Munich could “turn his head”.
The ex-Le Havre attacker has courted interests from several European top sides, following his exploits with Leicester in the Premier League last season. However, the Gunners are the club frequently linked with Mahrez in recent weeks, per reports.
Leicester boss Ranieri believes Mahrez’s future lies with the current Premier League champions, but the Algerian’s comment could trigger further interests from suitors. There are claims The Foxes have offered Mahrez an improved offer – which the player has yet to sign. Leicester are now likely to accept nothing less than £35m from any club interested in the services of the wing wizard.
“When there is a Brazilian who is lighting things up, he is at Real Madrid before you know it! For us, it is a little harder, we have to do more”, Mahrez was quoted as saying to France Football [per The Daily Mail].
“It [the Premier League] is a super league and I would like to stay here as long as possible. But now there are two or three clubs in the world that if they come for me it definitely makes you think, if you understand what I am trying to say”, the Algerian international added.
Mahrez scored Leicester’s first goal of the season in their Premier League opener against Hull City, but his goal was not enough as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat against The Tigers.
