News filtered out yesterday that Arsenal have clinched the signature of Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, and Arsenal supporters were sent into delirium as a striker signing is also one of the club’s priority.
The Gunners have had a bid of £17m accepted by Deportivo La Coruna for striker, Perez, according to The Daily Star who claimed Arsenal gazumped Everton – who also registered an interest – to the signature of the Spanish forward.
Perez is now expected in London today [Friday] for medical tests ahead of the move, having been given the permission by his club Deportivo who will be without the striker for tonight’s La Liga clash against Real Betis.
Arsenal boss, Arséne Wenger has been keen to add a quality striker to bolster his squad and rival Olivier Giroud for a starting spot in the team. The French boss’ failure to lure any striker has made the Gunners faithful furious and disappointed, with Leicester’s Jamie Vardy opting to extend his contract with The Foxes, Alexandre Lacazette [Lyon] choosing to remain with Lyon and, Gonzalo Higuain leaving Napoli for Juventus instead.
Perez notched an impressive 17 goals for Deportivo last term, having joined from Greek side PAOK. The Spanish side also bagged a goal and provided an assist in Deportivo’s opening La Liga game last weekend. Good buy for Arsenal!
