Wenger has been very busy in the transfer market this summer bringing in Granit Xkaha and young Japanese forward Takuma Asano, the Arsenal gaffer is keen to bring in an established defender before the beginning of next season. Wenger is set to agree terms with Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic.
Borussia Dortmund have given Neven Subotic permission to open discussions with other clubs about a possible transfer, as he has fallen down the pecking order in Borussia Dortmund. Former Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the Serbian defender and is said to be monitoring the situation closely. Early this week it was reported that newly promoted side Middlesbrough were in talks with Subotic, until Arsenal signified interest.
Wenger’s side finished second place after Leicester City, but with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City already reinforcing their squads with a number of top talents and recruiting new managers, Arsenal will need to make some marquee signings in order to keep up the pace and better last season’s second position.
Subotic recently admitted he wants to leave Dortmund, in search for more first team game time, after playing just 11 times for Thomas Tuchel’s side last season. And Wenger is set to give the Serbian defender an opportunity to rediscover his form at the Emirates.
