Last season showed beyond reasonable doubt that Arsenal could do with the signing of another centre back. This is even more important considering the fact that Per Mertesacker will be 32 by September. And we have been linked with the signing of different centre backs which is a pointer that Wenger is also keen on sorting the defensive problems this summer.
Yesterday news emerged that Arsenal have entered the race to sign Dortmund and Serbia international centre back Neven Subotic. The player was thought to have had a medical with German side FC Koln and was going to sign for them but reports claimed Arsenal have hijacked the deal.
And in what could be an official statement confirming the player will be joining Arsenal, FC Koln chief financial director, Koln’s Dick Law Alexander Wehrle confirmed the player will not be signing for Koln
His statement read thus; “I do not think Neven Subotic will be joining us, he is going to England”
This is probably because the reports linking the Serbian to Arsenal is true. Reports claim Subotic will be at London Colney this weekend to undergo a medical which means the deal is near completion.
Although the player has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, the fact that all the German media are convinced he will be joining Arsenal is quite telling.
