The wait for the arrival of a top notch defender this summer at the Emirates could soon be over, with under a week to go before the transfer window is declared closed.
In what has been one of the longest drawn transfer saga of the summer, Arsenal’s move for Shkodran Mustafi is all but over, with reports claiming the Gunners have secured the transfer of the Valencia centre-back. The North London club have reached a £35m agreement for the transfer of Mustafi and, medical examinations could be done on Friday.
Sky Sports’ Marc Behrenbeck [@Sky_Marc] tweeted: “#Mustafi is still in Valencia. Contract not signed yet. But @valenciacf agreed on 41mio Euro offer from @Arsenal. Medical maybe tomorrow.”
Should Mustafi complete his medical in London today, Arsène Wenger could field the Germany international defender in Saturday’s game against Watford, as the Arsenal manager aim to lead his side to securing all three points at Vicarage Road.
The belief is that Mustafi will be able to plug the leaky hole in the Gunners defence, with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista out with long-term injuries. Mustafi could therefore be Laurent Koscielny’s centre-back partner against Walter Mazzari’s men on Saturday. As expected, Mustafi should be Koscielny’s regular partner in the Arsenal rearguard – if all goes well.
