Giroud moved across London on deadline day after Chelsea coughed up £18m to secure his signature.
But Ornstein has confirmed Wenger was ready to get rid during the previous transfer window.
He told the ArseBlog podcast: “Arsene Wenger has always talked about his admiration and love for Giroud, but they were willing to do a deal for him to leave in the summer.
“Everton were said to have been close, so it’s not like he was such a prized asset that they’d never considered letting him leave before now.”
