Arsenall will sign a striker and a defender before the end of the transfer window and finally, the club’s frustrating search for new players seems to be drawing to an end with the transfer window five days away from slamming shut.
Now, Arsenal have booked two medical examinations for two players in Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez today. Mustafi, 24, will finally be an Arsenal player after the North London club and Valencia agreed a £35m deal for the German centre-back. It is also reported that Mustafi will put pen to paper on a five-year, 100,000-a-week deal once he completes his medicals.
Mustafi is regarded as one of the best defenders in the La Liga and his aerial prowess will help him stand out against the tough English Premier League strikers. The German ace is expected to go straight into the Arsenal side as Laurent Koscielny’s centre-back partner.
On the other hand, the Gunners have agreed on a £17m transfer of Perez from Deportivo La Coruna, with the Spanish striker expected to sign a four-year contract worth around £70,000 per week.
Arsenal beat off competition from Everton, who thought they had Perez, but the forward was reportedly swayed by the Champions League football that Arsenal will offer. Perez notched 17 goals and recorded 8 assists for Deportivo last term and the 27-year old opened his goal account for the La Liga side last weekend as he bagged the winner for his club.
The deals for Perez and Mustafi will take Arsenal’s spending this summer to around £100m, having signed Granit Xhaka [£34m], Rob Holding [£2m], Kelechi Nwakali [£3m] and Takuma Asano [£800,000] earlier on.
