Arsene Wenger’s latest addition to his backroom staff was confirmed on Monday morning following speculation during the weekend.
The Arsenal manager is expected to oversee a host of changes this summer to improve his squad as well as the club’s coaching and fitness staff ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
Rumours broke on Friday that the Gunners were preparing to complete a move for former Liverpool high performance manager Darren Burgess.
The 43-year-old old will be charged with the task of taking care of Arsenal’s medical, fitness, psychology and performance analysis.
And on Monday morning, Australian side Port Adelaide confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Arsenal for Burgess to be released ahead of his move to north London.
Regarding the move, Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas said:
“We acknowledge that this is a life changing opportunity for Darren,”
“But what we’ve been able to do is work with Arsenal to enact a transition process which limits any impact or disruption to our football program for this year, and retain Darren’s expertise for our 2018 planning.
“We are appreciative of Arsenal’s understanding that the integrity of our football program is the absolute priority for our club.”
