According to an exclusive report from Italian website TMW, Arsenal want to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli this summer, but they will struggle to seal a deal for the Senegal international.
The Gunners were caught short at the end of last season as injuries and suspensions robbed them of most of their defensive options ahead of the FA Cup final.
Thankfully for manager Arsene Wenger, he still managed to oversee a victory to add another piece of silverware to the trophy cabinet, but he will not want to face the same scenario again and has seemingly tested the water regarding Koulibaly.
The problem for Arsenal is that Napoli fully understand the player’s importance to their project and have him secured to a long-term contract that expires in the summer of 2021.
Every player has his price, but it does seem Napoli are not going to say yes unless they receive an offer that is simply too good to refuse.
Arsenal have impressed this summer, albeit slowly, signing Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette so far, with more new faces expected to follow.
Koulibaly is a regular in the rumour mill and would significantly strengthen Arsenal’s back line having turned out 119 times for Napoli to date.
The latest news comes a year after Goal.com claimed Arsenal had been offered the chance to sign the Senegalese player for around £39million.
Now the Gunners are finally flexing their financial muscle, have they missed their chance?
