Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed it is clear that the Gunners are in need of defensive reinforcement this term.
The North London side have been linked with a centre-back signing after Gabriel Paulista joined Per Mertesacker in the treatment room. The absence of a quality centre half in Arsenal’s defence was, however, obvious as the Gunners crashed at home 3-4 to Liverpool on Sunday.
Arsenal are now on the lookout for a top notch defence ace as the summer transfer business nears a close.
However, ex-Arsenal striker now a football pundit Henry has stated that it was glaring that his former side were in need of defensive cover at the back even before their recent injury crisis.
“Even before the injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel, it was clear that Arsenal needed to sign another centre half”, Henry wrote in his column for The Sun.
Arsenal last tasted Premier League triumph in their famous unbeaten 2003-04 season at the Highbury. They however won the FA Cup back to back in 2014 and 2015, but finished last season without a silverware.
Meanwhile, the Gunners’ next Premier League fixture sees them travel all the way to the King Power stadium to battle to season’s Premier League champions Leicester, who will also be out for all three points.
The Foxes also lost their first game of the season away to Premier League new boys Hull City. Hence, the match promises to be a feisty encounter.
