Arsenal players’ susceptibility to injury is widely known, so an injury to any of Arséne Wenger’s men will not come as a surprise.
The latest is that Nacho Monreal has suffered an injury as the defender was seen limping out of Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.
Monreal displaced Kierran Gibbs from the left back position in the Arsenal defence and has established himself as first-choice left-back for the past two seasons. The Spaniard started once again for Arsenal against the Hornets on Saturday afternoon.
However, Monreal could not complete the full 90 minutes as he was hauled off in the 71st minute after suffering what appears to be a leg injury. The 30-year old was replaced by Gibbs, with fans hoping the injury is not anything serious.
Meanwhile, manager Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com yesterday that Monreal has just taken a kick and the injury is not a serious one.
“Nacho Monreal has a kick but nothing major”, Wenger said.
Monreal should have ample time to recover from the knock, as he has not been called up by Spain for next weekend’s international. The defender is expected to be ready to face Southampton at the Emirates in Arsenal’s next Premier League game after the international break.
