In what would have come as a devastating news for a large Arsenal fan base, Arsene Wenger has stated he has no central defence solution at the moment. However, the Gunners boss did confirm on French TV recently that Arsenal are in talks to sign Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia. Now, you need not fret much, Gunners faithful!
Whilst showering encomiums on Laurent Koscielny following Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Leicester on Saturday, Wenger has admitted he has no solution yet for the central defence crisis that has rocked Arsenal other than fielding the French defender – who the boss later revealed was carrying a back problem.
According to Wenger, Koscielny saved Arsenal a point against The Foxes despite carrying a back injury when he left training the day before the game.
“We look a different team staright away and he gave us stability against a side that attacks well”, Wenger told the press after the match.
“I think he was very important.
“I saw that we were a bit too young [in defence] and I have no real solution in central defence at the moment. In fairness he had a big back problem yesterday when he came out of the training.
“We came with 19 players and this morning we decided that he could play and I think it saved us this point.”
Although it might be true that Koscielny saved Arsenal a point, but the Gunners were somewhat lucky as Leicester had two penalty calls not given in the game.
