Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club are working on a possible loan move that would see Jon Toral join Rangers FC, as per Arsenal ‘s official website
The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Granada but has made just five La Liga appearances this season, including being an unused substitute against Real Madrid on Saturday.
Rangers are reportedly keen to sign Toral on a short-term deal, according to latest reports from Sky Sports and the negotiations over a loan deal have been underway for few weeks now.
Toral who joined the North London club from Barcelona in 2011, has had successful loan spells at Brentford and Birmingham, but the sought-after midfielder is yet to make his senior debut.
Wenger feels that a move to Rangers would be more beneficial to the youngster, who has been struggling to get game time at Grenada.
Speaking to Arsenal Player, he said:
[on whether Jon Toral could be joining Glasgow Rangers] We work on it to see if it is possible, yes.
[on whether that move would be a benefit for Jon] Yes, because he has played games there [for Granada] but at the moment he doesn’t play and personally I think it would be a good transition for him.
The midfielder had a successful loan spell with Brentford two seasons ago under current Rangers manager Mark Warburton, who also took Gedion Zelalem on loan last season.
Toral has all the assets of repeating what Iwobi did last season becoming a first team regular, but the circumstances are a lot different this time around.
The Gunners are currently stacked in midfield and Wenger might not afford any game time to Toral during the remaining part of the season. So, sending him on loan for the remainder of the season looks to be the best option to aid his development.
