Juventus have reportedly agreed on a €16m deal with Arsenal to complete the signing of Wojciech Szczesny this summer, according to reports in Sky Sport Italia.

The Polish International was Wenger’s first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal few years back, but the arrivals of David Ospina and Petr Cech combined with Szczesny’s consistently indifferent form and poor off-field behavior, eventually led him to leave on loan.

The 27-year-old was loaned out to Roma two years back, who have been Juventus’ closest competitors for the Serie A title.

According to Sky Italia, the Old Lady have set their targets on Szczesny to take over as the club’s first-choice keeper once current numero-uno Buffon retires next summer.

The Gunners will receive €16m as transfer fee and the Polish star will sign a four-year contract worth €4m-per-season. Juventus have been working on a deal for the keeper since March. Napoli have also been interested in Szczesny, but it seems the Italian Champions have won the race.

Szczesny has improved leaps and bounds since his move to Roma. He has led Roma to second place in Serie A and in the process, made himself one of the most statistically superior keepers in the world of football.

If Arsenal sell him, it will put them in a tough spot with Ospina also on the verge of leaving the Emirates club which means that young keeper Emiliano Martinez will play second fiddle to Petr Cech unless the Gunners sign another keeper in the summer.

We just cannot sell two of our keepers and then scout the market for a new keeper. While it would be hard to convince Ospina to stay, but it should be very much possible to keep hold of Szczesny by providing him with some assurances.
