Arsenal could finally miss out on long-term target Julian Draxler, with Paris Saint-Germain poised to land the Wolfsburg attacker for a stunning €75m [£65m], Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, who cites reports from Germany, claims.
Draxler’s link with a move to Arsenal has been a recurring theme over the past three summer transfer windows, but the Gunners have failed to lure the German attacker to the Emirates on a number of occasions.
However, Draxler reportedly told Wolfsburg – whom he only joined last summer from Schalke 04 – he wants to leave the club as they will not be competing in this season’s Champions League. The skillful playmaker, who shone for Germany at June’s European Championships, has since been searching for a new employer and now, he seems to have got one.
Kaveh [@SkyKaveh] tweeted: “Reports in Germany that PSG are prepared to pay Wolfsburg €75m [£64m] to sign Julian Draxler.”
It is believed Wolfsburg will not allow Draxler leave on the cheap, but PSG are willing to cough up a mammoth fee to land the brilliant attacker.
While it could be said that Arsenal have lost in the race to sign Draxler, the North Londoners have enough options in Draxler’s preferred position – especially with Lucas Perez signing from Deportivo La Coruna.
Perez only played as a striker for Deportivo last term [scoring 17 goals], but it is highly likely Arséne Wenger will deploy the 27-year old as a wide attacker.
