Arsenal have according to reports in the Spanish press made contact with Barca in regards to the possibility of the Gunners signing Barca’s Turkish international attacker Ardan Turan. According to Spanish newspaper Sport, see image below, Arsenal are interested in signing the former Atletico Madrid player.
Earlier reports had indicated that Barca will be open to selling the player who they signed less than 18 months ago in a deal said to be in the region of £29 million. Why Wenger could be interested in the Turkey international is quite understandable. Arsenal could certainly do with a winger like Turan especially as Theo Walcott continues to flatter to deceive and Chamberlain can’t seem to be able to get over his injury woes.
The versatility of Ardan Turan will be useful to Arsenal in that the 29-year-old can play on both wings and as well as behind the striker. His wage demands is unlikely to be a problem for Arsenal as well. He is reportedly earning £80,000 a week currently with Barca.
His signing, if it happens, will however have an interesting implication for Theo Walcott. Turan is certainly not going to be coming to Arsenal to seat on the bench which means Theo Walcott’s already limited first team chances will be further limted which may not be taken well by the Englishman.
