Having lost out on the opportunity of signing Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy, Arsenal have since been linked with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata and Alexandre Lacazette.
But according to a report by daily mirror, Arsenal are finally on the verge of signing a striker as the Gunners have opened talks to sign Gonzalo Higuain after the Argentine’s agent confirmed his client will not be signing a new contract.
The report of Arsenal’s interest in Higuain is also reported by Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli who the Mirror cites as their source. According to the Italian, Higuain is now Wenger’s top choice and the Gunners have now made contact with his agent and brother, Nicola Higuain, to discuss over a possible move for the Argentine.
Higuain is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe and he had been living up to that reputation and last season he bagged 36 goals in just 35 apperances for Napoli in the Serie A.
Napoli are demanding as much as £75 million for the please which is his release clause but it is widely believed that the Italian could be forced to sell the player for lower than his release clause should the player be keen on leaving.
