Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, Whoscored reports.
What’s the word?
With Alexis Sanchez’ future up in the air and a host of Europe’s top-sides eyeing his services, Arsenal are growing increasingly worried that the Chilean ace will seek an exit this summer- and the Gunners will be hapless to stop him, as he’ll enter the final year of his deal.
As such, Arsenal are looking at potential replacements and have identified Borussia Dortmund ace Marco Reus as their top-target should Alexis move on; in a deal worth a whopping £50.9m, which would break the record fee the Gunners paid for Mesut Ozil in 2013.
Arsene Wenger’s side are said to have already made contact with the German side and are ready to offer Reus a five-year deal worth £6.8m-a-year; taking the overall cost of Reus’ arrival to an incredible £84.9m after the deal concludes.
Is he good enough?
Marco Reus, 27, is a year younger than Alexis Sanchez and should be approaching his prime years. However, after missing Germany’s World Cup winning campaign in 2014, Reus has consistently struggled with injury problems.
Meanwhile, Alexis is in the form of his life and is one of the best players in world football right now. The Gunners would likely still have money left over from a Alexis sale to fund a move for Reus but Arsenal fans probably won’t be keen on a swap.
That’s not because Reus isn’t good enough, it’s simply down to the fact that Arsenal supporters would prefer to have both players in their ranks.
