Arsenal could finally get one of their long-term targets, Julian Draxler, before the summer transfer window slams shut, according to reports.
Draxler made it clear he wants to leave Wolfsburg, after returning from Euro 2016, but the Bundesliga side are playing hard ball. Their stance, reports claim, appears to have changed recently albeit they are still urging the former Schalke 04 player to remain at the club to help his development.
There are indications Arsenal have offered €50m [£41.9m] for Draxler’s services, although the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has yet to make any comment re the bid. Earlier on in August, Wolfsburg stated they do not want the Germany international to leave and were hoping to keep him until his reported €75m buyout clause becomes active next summer.
Going by this comment, even if the reports that Arsenal offered €50m are true – which are highly dubitable – Draxler could remain at Wolfsburg for this summer, at least.
The 22-year old has attracted interests from European heavyweight sides like Real Madrid and Barcelona and with Wolfsburg not competing in this season’s Champions League, Draxler wants to leave for a club in the Champions League.
Let’s see if Arsenal gets him though.
