It seems Arsenal will finally be signing their prime target after a series of protracted talks between them and Valencia.
Manager Arsene Wenger has claimed the Gunners are in negotiations with the Spanish outfit over a transfer for defender Shkodran Mustafi.
The Arsenal boss has been under intense pressure to sign new players, most importantly a defender, before the end of the transfer window and after seeing his side labour to a draw against Leicester on Saturday, Wenger has finally accepted he has to splash the cash before the transfer window deadline on August 31.
“Mustafi? We hope it will be done. We are struggling to find the players we need”, Wenger told French channel SFR Sport on Saturday.
“He is one of a number of players we are looking at. Negotiations are ongoing.”
Wenger, however, did not fail to address the talks on his refusal to spend. The Frenchman said his reluctance to spend is only due to lack of options in the market.
Wenger said: “First of all, it is not my money. Second, spending money is fine, but it is not enough. You must spend money on excellent players. We are struggling to find them.”
