Arsenal transfer news sees the Gunners boss speak out about new additions at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has told worried Arsenal fans that he is still in the market for new signings.
The Gunners have brought in two new additions this summer, with Sead Kolasinac arriving on a free transfer and Alexandre Lacazette signing from Lyon in a club record fee.
But since Lacazette joined on July 6 there have been no further arrivals, despite the club being heavily linked with several players – including Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and Nice star Jean Seri.
With Arsenal kicking off the new Premier League season tonight against Leicester City, some supporters believe more is need in the transfer market if Wenger’s side are to compete for the title.
And so the Frenchman has moved to calm those fears by insisting he is still looking to bring people in, although he did add he needs to sell some players first.
“We are still open,” he said. “But of course at the moment I have currently 33 players and it is very difficult to manage on a daily basis such a high number.”
Arsenal are looking to move on several players before the end of the window, including the likes of Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson.
Once they free up space in the squad, Wenger is hoping to add another further two additions, with an attacking and central midfielder on the agenda.
One player who won’t be joining, however, is Riyad Mahrez – according to comments made by Wenger ahead of this evening’s game against Leicester.
“We were never close,” Wenger said when asked about the Gunners moving for Mahrez.
“I rate him as a player but we have similar types with Alex Iwobi, Jack Wilshere back. Mesut Ozil … we have plenty of the same type of players.”
