According to reports, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to seal a deal for Santos striker Gabriel Barbosa. Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to the man nicknamed ‘Gabigol’ for his striking exploits says ESPN Brasil. The Emirate club desperately want to sign a striker this summer, having missed out on preferred target, Jamie Vardy.
The 19 year old, recently disclosed he has offers and, while he would be very interested in joining one of Europe’s top clubs, he is also reluctant to leave his home club right away.
He said: “Yes, I have offers from some of the big clubs in Europe that interest me, but that is for my parents and my employers but I am happy at Santos.
“That will sort itself out in time.
“Santos is my home, but we will make a calm decision.”
The striker, who often plays from wide and off the bench, has scored 54 goals in 148 competitive games for Santos first team, a fine record for any player at his age.
Gabriel will likely need to work on the physical side of his game in the years ahead should he eventually make the switch. He is no slump in terms of pace (although he’s no sprinter either) but he can lack a bit of the power sometimes required to trouble stronger defenders, especially in the air. He is just 19 and still developing, and has lot of years ahead of him to improve.
