Just days after lauding Arsene Wenger’s refusal to splash the cash despite the huge pressure, Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira seems to have made a u-turn on his statement.
Vieira has blasted Wenger’s approach, saying the French boss has made a huge error not involving any of his former players in the coaching set-up at the Emirates.
As reported in The Sun, Vieira who currently manages New York City believes Arsenal could benefit greatly from assistance from former players like himself, Thierry Henry and Mikel Arteta. The former Manchester City U-21 boss is also critical of the current crop of players at Arsenal, saying they lack the mental strength which was present during his “invincible” generation at the club.
Wenger is regarded as a dictator and it is not a surprise that the Frenchman has opted against making use of his high-profile former players in favour of those he now surrounds himself with, who would always say ‘yes’ to his instructions.
Vieira’s comments may make Wenger feel disappointed, as he could have the feelings that his former player had joined the bandwagon of those trying to put Arsenal down. Although Vieira manages New York City at the moment, but the American side are closely connected with Manchester City, one of Arsenal’s title rivals.
