MANCHESTER CITY boss Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
Wilshere is currently spending the season on loan at Bournemouth after signing from Arsenal in the summer.
The England international, who has been hit by injuries in recent seasons, has made a big impact at Dean Court.
Wilshere’s Arsenal future is far from certain with the midfielder’s contract expiring in 2018.
As of yet, there have been no negotiations over a new deal.
Manchester City have been touted as a possible destination for the 25-year-old, with Guardiola keen to overhaul his underperforming squad.
And the City boss did not hold back in his praise for Wilshere – hinting at a summer move in the process.
“I remember in Barcelona and that year we played Arsenal,” Guardiola said.
“He left a massive impression. A high, high level.
“I know the problem with Jack Wilshere was just the injuries. If he’s lucky to play regularly for one season, he is going to be back to being one of the best midfield players in England by far.
“He has a special quality with the ball, dribbling as a holding midfielder to attack central defenders – it’s not easy to do that.”
Guardiola also reckons a player of Wilshere’s stature should be playing regularly.
“That’s a good question,” Guardiola replied with a smile when asked if the player was right to join Bournemouth.
“He would still be playing for Arsenal if he was fit [before]. I think it was so important for him to be able to play week after week.”
City will go up against Wilshere when they face Bournemouth tonight (8pm).
A win over the Cherries would move them up to second in the Premier League table – eight points behind leaders Chelsea.
