Arsenal, Barcelona, Roma and Paris Saint-Germain are all interested in signing Porto’s Hector Herrera on a free transfer, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.
Arsenal are said to be interested in signing the Mexican as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey who according to this Manchester United blog, could be on his way to Manchester United. Although Juventus are also said to be interested in signing the Welshman.
Hector Herrera’s contract expires in the summer and Italian newspapers report that there are a long list of teams keen on recruiting the midfielder. And Arsenal are also one of those who have active interest in the player.
However, it appears Roma are the team in driving seat. The 28-year-old has reportedly already received a number of offers from different clubs but the proposal from the Italian side looks the most appealing to him.
The Giallorossi are even trying to bring forward the deal to the January transfer window by offering to pay a transfer fee for Herrera.
Porto may consider letting him go before the end of the season as there seems to be no prospect of him renewing his deal at the Estadio do Dragao. He has reportedly rejected four different offers to extend his stay at the Portuguese club.
Personally, I still think Arsenal will find a way of retaining Aaron Ramsey. He is no doubt a very good player but I don’t see him getting into the first eleven of any of the big Premier league clubs. Not because he is not good enough but because virtually all the top six Premier league clubs have quality players in the roles Aaron Ramsey plays in.
My opinion is that the Gunners are playing a mind game with Ramsey having realised they are paying Ozil too much money. And rightly so, Ramsey for me isn’t worth more than 180,000 a week and is said to be demanding upward of 250,000 a week.
And if by chance Arsenal lets Ramsey go on a free transfer, I don’t see Emery wanting to bring someone like Hector Herrera in. No disrespect to the Mexican, he is a good player but Arsenal have other quality players who can take Ramsey’s place in the current Arsenal squad.
If anything, Emery will be looking to bring in a defender and a winger and not another central midfielder even if Ramsey leaves.
