The time is ticking and it’s only a week left for Arsenal to solve the issues in their squad.
Arsenal’s need to bring in a centre-back and a striker is obvious, but boss Arsene Wenger has limited time to conduct his transfer business.
Meanwhile, below is the latest on the players linked with Arsenal:
Arsenal are planning to use goalkeeper David Ospina as agent to lure Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez to the Emirates. Fichajes understand Ospina has asked his brother-in-law, James, to join him at Arsenal this summer. The Colombian attacker has been on the peripheral at Real since Zinedine Zidane become manager and, the bald-headed tactician has told James he has only a secondary role at the club. Arsenal’s London rivals, Chelsea are also interested in James.
Now this looks like a blow. A devastating one, so to speak. Valencia boss Paco Ayestaran , in the aftermath of their 4-2 defeat to Las Palmas in their opening La Liga game last weekend, has stated clearly that defender Shkodran Mustafi is not for sale. Mustafi has been linked with Arsenal all summer, but the transfer has so far not materialised. Reports suggest Valencia will not let Mustafi leave unless a £50m fee is paid.
Arsene Wenger is also interested in signing Manchester United defender Phil Jones. The Gunners are struggling to get a defender and Wenger believes Jones – who looks surplus to requirements under José Mourinho – will come cheap and easy. Jones has yet to feature for United this term as he continues to battle fitness and form issues. Nevertheless, it is unlikely Arsenal will get Jones as Mourinho reportedly does not want to sell any of his players to the Gunners.
Also, Arsenal have made enquiries about the availability of Monaco’s Marcel Tisserand. The defender is seen as a possible option for Arsenal in case the Mustafi deal finally falls through. Tisserand can perform brilliantly at either right-back or centre-back.
